Gym Equipment - Why You Should Consider Putting It In Your Home

In over twenty years of being involved with fitness and nutrition, I've heard a lot of excuses why people can't eat a healthy diet and engage in exercise on a regular basis. However, the number one reason people use is that they "just don't have time" to eat right or go to the gym. I would claim that they do have time - they just need to prioritize the important things and eliminate some detrimental ones. But let's assume that I'm wrong, and you actually don't have time to go to the gym (we'll leave nutrition for another article). It's ok - you don't have to. All you need to do is invest in some home gym equipment.

Actually, for a lot of people, having gym equipment at home is not just a poor substitute for going to a commercial exercise facility. It's actually an improvement. Why? Most importantly, if you have fitness equipment at home, you can work out whenever you want. Anytime you get the urge, just head on over to the treadmill, elliptical, strength training machine or free weights and get going. If you were to get in your car and drive over to the gym, you might have lost your motivation by the time you got there. If your equipment's at home, you could be done working out by the time you would have walked in the front door of the gym. This is not to say that you should only work out when you feel like it. No, you do need to exercise on a regular basis. But it is beneficial to be able to throw in an extra workout if you feel energetic, or make up one that you missed because you were ill or had unavoidable schedule conflicts.

Also, when you work out at home, you don't have to deal with idiots. Not to say everyone at the gym is an idiot. But there are always a few that can make it a frustrating experience. The slob who doesn't wipe his sweat off the equipment, or the guy doing fifteen sets of curls in the power rack who won't let anybody work in. Or maybe the person who likes to have fifteen minute conversations between each set while sitting on the machine you want to use. Whatever, you don't need this hassle. Eliminate it the easy way.

At home, you can do the workout you want. If you want to do supersets, you can set up all the exercises and blast from one to the other without having someone else tie up a station in the middle of your routine. You could do intervals on your exercise bike and walk around for recovery, without worrying that another person will take over the bike while you're off it. You can drop to the floor and relax into some stretches without having two women who seem to be in a talking contest come and plop down right next to you.

When you work out at home, you don't have to listen to the music that the front desk person likes. You pick your music, or maybe you like to work out to silence. You may like to watch a DVD or a recorded TV show while working out. Go ahead - you're the boss, as long as these forms of entertainment enhance your workout rather than distracting you from it. And of course, as we alluded to at the beginning of this article, when you have your own gym equipment at home, you don't waste time traveling to and from the gym. You're there. You also don't have to pay somebody every month for the rest of your life in order to work out. Once you've paid off your equipment, the money can go towards whatever you want. Hopefully some healthy food. Maybe some clothes to fit that sexy new body.

Of course, some people love the gym, and find time to fit it into their schedule. That's great. However, if that were you, I doubt if you'd be reading this article, so do some research into gym equipment, find some stuff suited to your goals, and get started exercising on your own terms.
